Don't Forget Your Flu Shot...

Flu season is coming. Influenza, a virus which infects up to 20 percent of the U.S. population every year, is much more prevalent in the upcoming winter months. Influenza is highly contagious, and it accounts for millions of missed school/work days nationwide each year. Influenza can also cause serious health issues, such as pneumonia, dehydration, and worsening of underlying medical problems like asthma. For these reasons, Green Hills Pediatric Associates offers flu vaccine to all of our patients. ALL children 6 months and older should be vaccinated. Individuals with asthma or other chronic diseases are high risk and should receive the vaccine. Flu vaccine will be available at Green Hills Pediatrics beginning October 20, 2008. No appointment is required to receive flu vaccine. Times of administration are Monday-Friday, 9am-12:30pm and 2pm-4:30pm. Call with any questions and monitor our website for updates about flu vaccine.

Remember to give your child's daily allergy medication if you have been directed to do so by your doctor. If you feel like your child may have seasonal allergies, call us with any questions.

Farewell, Dr. Wood...

After 38 years with Green Hills Pediatrics, Dr. G. Wallace Wood is hanging up his stethoscope on September 1st. All the patients, staff members, and doctors of GHPA wish Dr. Wood the best in his retirement. We will miss his engaging smile and welcoming personality. Congratulations, Dr. Wood!!!

On The HomeStretch hosted a live Internet radio show at Green Hills Pediatrics on August 28th. The show was a tribute to Dr. Wally Wood for 38 years of faithful service. The show kicked off with Dr. Godfrey sharing important information for parents of young ones. The second segment included Dr. Ladd offering helpful information on adolescents. The final two segments included sentiments and stories from Dr. Wood, his patients, his friends and his employees. What a great way to celebrate one of the most loved doctors in all of Tennessee!

Varicella (Chickenpox) Vaccine Booster

New recommendations now exist concerning varicella, or chickenpox, vaccine in children and adults. In order to achieve higher levels of immunity, and in following recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and ACIP, Green Hills Pediatric Associates recommends a booster dose for all children who have had only one dose of varicella vaccine and have not yet contracted chickenpox. This dose will be given with kindergarten immunizations for all children entering school, and all older children and adolescents can be given the booster at any time. Please ask us about this at your next visit.
